During the plea by the Dutch lawyers Boudewijn Van Eijck and Sabine ten Doessschate while defending their client Oleg Pulatov many silly remarks and nonsense requests were made by these two Dutch lawyers. This post is part of a serie of blogposts showing these silly remarks made at June 22 and June 23. All blogposts on this topic can be read here

Both defence lawyers requested to interview many witness and experts. However the lawyer did not provide good statements why they wanted to interview these people. The lawyers just said they wanted to have alternative scenarios investigated. However according the public prosecutor to have alternative scenarios investigated there needs to be a ‘beginning of a plausible scenario’. There is no such condition. All evidence indicates a Buk missile downed MH17.

The public prosecutor stated:

A good example concerns the request to hear investigators from the OVV as witnesses. In the explanatory notes to this, the defense itself already refers to the regulations that apply to the relationship between investigations by the OVV and criminal investigations. The defense therefore knows that Dutch law stipulates that investigators of the OVV cannot be summoned as witnesses in criminal proceedings. [56] This provision is made to ensure that the OVV can do its job properly and that it is not confronted with refusal to cooperate by persons who are afraid that they will later be sentenced as a result of an OVV investigation. Pulatov makes this request knowing it cannot be allocated.

The motivation of the lawyers seems to spread doubt and delay the trial as long as possible.
