A Malaysian representative of JIT stated Malaysia supports of the conclusions of the JIT. Although his response to a question was not very clear.
Earlier Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir stated during a pressconference in Japan the country supports the conclusions of JIT but only the part which confirms a Russian made missile downed MH17.
The Joint Investigation Team at June 20 presented in a pressbriefing names of four suspects which are responsible for bringing in a Buk Telar anti-aircraft missile system into Eastern Ukraine. The indictment is murder of 298 persons and bringing down a passenger aircraft.
At the end of the press briefing journalist Rudy Bouma of Dutch TV Nieuwsuur asked the representative for Malaysia of JIT, Mr Hanafia bin Zakaria, if his country supports todays indictment of three Russian and one Ukrainian suspect.
His response was in bad english and difficult to hear.
In regard to your question Malaysia likes to reiterate our commitment to JIT in taking justice and for the victims. And as members the JIT findings are based on extensive investigations and also legal research. So the objective of JIT is to complete the investigations in gathering evidence and…(inaudible) Malaysia stand by the rule of law and the due process. So we are with JIT in regard to the findings.
Bouma then asks ‘Do you support the conclusions?’ Now it gets confusing.
Part of the conclusion. We have not change our positions.
But he likely said ‘Sup port of the conclusion. The Sup was not heard as he press the button of the microphone a bit to late.
